When should I plan to get to and leave Vienna?

The conference will run from the afternoon of the 3rd of June till the 7th of June 2024.

  • Please arrive at Vienna airport in the morning (before 12:00) of Monday the 3rd of June.
  • Plan to leave in the afternoon (after 17:30) of Friday the 7th of June.

Our default option for the arrival day is one shuttle bus around 11am in the morning 3rd of June. Depending on the demand, which we will collect information from you soon, we can organise a second shuttle bus in the early morning such as 8-9am. In the return trip, we leave around 17:30. Whether it is earlier or later than this will be also decided based on demand. The journey from EMPSEB29 venue – Vienna should take around 1 hour, up to 2 hours depending on the traffic.

Pick up points are only at Vienna Airport (“Flughafen Wien-Schwechat VIE”) and Vienna Main Train Station (“Wien Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)”).

If you arrive somewhere else and would like to join us for shuttle bus in Vienna, please arrange accordingly.

If you want to go on your own to EMPSEB29 venue, check out the information below “How do I get to the conference venue?“.

Our shuttle buses leave only on Monday 3rd of June. If you arrive on Sunday 2nd of June, you have to find your own accommodation. We cannot provide this additional night. If you have some issues finding one, or need any tips from the locals, please let us know.

How do I get to the conference venue?

The nearest Airport is Vienna International Airport (“Flughafen Wien-Schwechat VIE”)

Making our conference more sustainable is our priority and this is done with the help of “The Company of Biologists”. We will organize:

  1. A shuttle service from Vienna to our venue for all delegates, promoting shared transport and reducing individual fuel consumption.
  2. We will further organise a lottery to give monitory awards for some of the delegates that are going to commute using trains reducing carbon expenditure from flights. Just come to the venue by train and your name will immediately enter into the lottery for the possibility to win several prizes funded by “The Company of Biologists”.

If you arrive somewhere else outside of Austria and travel to Vienna/EMPSEB29 venue by train, you are also eligible for the lottery.

When you are selected in the lottery, we will need the receipts (or any equivalent proof) of your train travel, so please keep them.

There is a train connection from the main station, i.e. “Wien Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)”, to the venue every hour and involves switching between two trains:
First train: From Wien Hauptbahnhof to Wiener Neustadt : Train number RJ or CJX9
Second train: From Wiener Neustadt to Puchberg am Schneeberg: Train number R98

The total journey is around 1.5hours.

  • If you’re landing at the airport, then you can take the train RJ from the airport stop- Flughafen Wien-Schwechat VIE” towards Wiener Neustadt and then take the second train as mentioned above.

The journey from the airport takes about 2 hours.

  • The conference venue is within walking distance of the Puchberg am Schneeberg station.

Please check the train website (ÖBB) here for timetable and booking.

Tips: with night trains you can reach Vienna easily in Monday morning. Check the night jet options here.
